About High Definition Printing
The most striking difference between a card printed from the HDP5000 and a normal PVC card is the quality of the image - it's sharper, clearer, neater, and Fargo's innovative HDP method is the reason. Most card printers utilize dye sublimation or inkjet printing - methods which print directly onto the card from the printer ribbon. The HDP5000, like other printers in the HDP series, uses high definition printing. In this process, the image is first printed onto a special film, then applied to the card - greatly reducing wasted cards and printing irregularities. Not only does this enhance quality control, HDP film also adds an extra layer of durability to the cards.
Why Lamination?
Laminating cards can double or triple their lifespan - adding an extra layer of protection between the information on the card and everday stresses. Even better, it serves as an effective anti-tampering measure - any attempt at tampering or altering the card is immediately visible. It can also be an effective anti-counterfeit measure with a customized hologram - with a protected ID card system, only authorized users can create the cards with the customized holograph and the ultra-secure HDP5000, giving you incredibly secure ID cards.
Note: Fargo recommends that Ultracard III polycards be used while printing laminated cards - the polyester makeup of these cards makes them more resistant to the higher temperatures involved in card lamination.
